As I was talking to someone the other day, the phrase 'the future is uncertain, and the end is always near' - Jim Morrison's words, came to mind. But it always, and in almost any circumstance, brings back the attention to what in life that stays, what goes. Nothing deep in an everyday object like a simple bangle, and yet...it could be another one of those keepers.
It is July and it is Summer, at last... After a scattered Winter, after an indecisive Spring, we are smack in the middle of this year and pushing ahead. The bench has been crowded, new work waiting to be completed and new orders ready to go. This week I took a look at the Slices collection and while the new additions are still a bit hesitant and awaiting the final touches, thought these earrings below could be the perfect match for bright Summer pairings. The Square Slices Earrings in yellow brass are happily bright and ready to go when you are.
Choose between 2 different sizes and celebrate this Summer in bright colors! The Black+White show at Artico is live! Another quick preview here below, a one-of-a-kind pair of Black+White Graffiti Earrings, signed and numbered on the back. The Black+White Graffiti is a mini series of One of a Kind jewelry pieces in sterling silver with a stained black patina finish. See more at the show!
The excitement continues with this mini series of one of a kind black and white jewelry pieces... These are a couple of shots for some work fresh off the bench for the Black+White show launching at Artico in just a few hours! This invitational show will run May 1-31, 2021 online on Artico and will feature a selection of New Mexico artists and their experiments in black and white only.
All work available exclusively through Artico - a New Mexico Art Collective supporting artists and makers through the COVID pandemic; sales will benefit Artico, the artist in the show and several New Mexico non profits...live links on launch date. Recycling is in progress on the bench: these are the first two pairs of new earrings I am looking forward to add to my Slices collection this Spring. These are leftover thin sticks bits and pieces from my cutting of squares and circles out of thick yellow brass...
I wasn't quite sure at first if I should let them stand alone as a mini series or whether I should add them to an existing line...well, of course they belong to the Slices collection! They match the colors, and the simple, striking vibe. new earrings in the making, working on something simple and not too boring... experimenting with copper sheet with pierced motifs, a simple circle cutout and foreseeing fun colors!
Pulled out this soliloquy pendant out of my archives this week and spent some time revisiting old work....always and still inspiring. This is a one-of-a-kind piece from a series of 3 statement pendants of earlier years. It is signed at the bottom...see it?
one of the many good things that have come to life during and despite this troubled year, is a local artists collective that sprang into action in response to the covid19 pandemic, offering a supportive net for fellow artists and makers. had been following them on instagram @artico.20 since the start but did not readily envisioned being one day featured on their feed! so I'll be up there for the full week of december 6 through 12, go check it out and enjoy the ride, each day is a new post and a new image...
Single or in colorful combinations, the time for the Stick Pendants is now. As with all of my work and in trying to keep things as simple a possible - especially in these difficult times, cannot not point out these simple pendants this week. Each pendant comes on either a 36 inch or a 42 inch black cotton cord, play with the two sliders on the cord to adjust into various lengths and styles for personal preferences. They also have a nice feel to them, a good comforting weight anchoring down the task at hand of the daily. Adjust the feel to your personal liking.
They are intriguing just one-on-one. Even more so in twos... After a long long hiatus, one of these gaps in time that never seem to reconcile, this week I have been rejoicing in stocking up on some vermeil again, like the best-seller classic Hoops below. For the super minimal, the black and white option, super classic in style, perfect match for simplicity. And copper, and brass, colors of autumn or for an end of season. There you go... got Hoops?
