I have been taking apart old display, cases and stands from my past show equipment and rearranged them to re-fit new setups. A couple of shots from my last little market experience, testing it out...next, I need to find the white tarps I had somewhere for better walls.
I got really excited for new work to coincide with the Santa Fe Recycle Show (in just about 10 days!) and this is now my first priority. Been super busy with recycled paper jewelry projects and overwhelmed with all the possibilities...time, as always, is too short. Old matches paper boxes, strips of paper from magazines and old books (these date back from my Sanskrit and Indian Arts studies...maybe I should call these the Sanskrit series?) shaping it all into pendants and earrings. Every piece unique, I am just flowing with the flow here. Materials and tools, main aid the old press inherited from my grandfather (I remember seeing it as a child sitting on an old oak table in his lawyer office, walls filled with books and 'pratiche' (clients files) he would organize, press and bound with strings in alphabetical order on floor to ceiling shelves.
Such a precious gift, a collector's item, a sturdy, high quality piece of equipment I am so grateful to have! Been deep into fall cleaning, reviewed, retired, put together a flash fall sale on a few things...and a fresh start is underway. Pulled out and finally finished some old work from (wait for it...) 1991! But I always work in cycles and often revisit older work to turn it into new. Completed a couple of pendants and a couple of earrings looking forward to the upcoming Santa Fe Recycle Show in November, and had fun shooting some pictures with my new phone. Nothing is live online yet, but planning to launch in a few weeks.
Below a couple of the very first finished pieces, black and white newspaper cuttings on cardboard core. Stained Brooches: initial series from decades ago, stains and marks on silver, brass and copper. some of these sold at jeweler's werk galerie/dc, but I can't remember when. Stained Brooches: all these pieces were very limited production, made just 4 of these, similar but all different, signed and dated on the back. This is a flat donut shape in stained silver. I know the w(h)earabouts of 2 of them, and I traded 1 for a beautiful dark red coat full of cut-out circles once with a fellow exhibitor at an American Craft Council Show in Baltimore. One of the recent experiments, the Black+White Graffiti Jewelry line, is one-of-a-kind collection of 8 unique pieces, earrings and a couple of pendants. Now my hands are itching.
I am playing around with initial tests on paper for a new series... I cannot wait to put it all down on metal! Have been working on some new pendants to add to my Free Form Jewelry collection and experimenting with different chains...many possibilities, but trying to pin down the best one! I think I like this second chain, and in the meantime have soldered 4 different heart elements, ready for the finishing process.
Planning on having 3 sizes available next week....jump into my circle for first dibs! So here we go, this is me in the studio, playing model with my Swinging Coil Earrings! No frills. But those earrings are so light and fun to wear and I just keep them on these days, as I churn a few more and snap shots...
This IS a rare peek into my studio and surroundings, and I am sharing it here today, sooo... I am obsessed now. So cannot resist to let you in in another quick peek into my studio doings... More Hearts coming...in vibrant colors to warm yours!
The beat starts live on Thursday/February 3rd in my online store.... Well, I have no excuses. I wrote before I was never into this 'heart' thing, admitted I toiled with some of them...but NEVER thought I would be caught in the act! Gotta say though, all those 'heart' memories gave some itching to my hands, and I just could not resist. Not anymore. So here we go, blushingly disclosing my latest 'heart-shaped' happy ongoing experiments in the studio...it's play time, and I like it!
Picking up from an older project, almost a year from today. Woke up in the middle of the night recently, eyes wide open, like something calling from afar and, all of a sudden, I saw this: Notes and scribblings on copper to remind me of thing to make, sooner or later...
My hands are itching to explore, a fresh push for new beginnings... Well, I have been working on it. After several trial and error attempts, the trash cans table has finally settled in its cozy location just across the entrance, and with the red stools around, it all makes for a pleasant spot to hang out. Have been 'testing' it myself these past few days, sipping my tea and jotting down notes on life and work, looking out the big doors onto the bare and quiet parking lot. I still have to replace the curtain rod and turn the shades into white light canvas drapes, pulling out all the 'show stuff' I have been schlepping all over the country for years. The other half of the space is still in progress, display cases are out, lights and last details to be figured out, but looking at next weekend for a possible tentative date. Studio visits are by appointment only and solely open to my collector list subscribers... Interested in exclusive previews of unique jewelry and wearable art? |
